Don’t Turn Around is committed to protecting creators’ rights — and respecting the law. This page explains our stance on copyright, how to protect your work, and how we handle takedown requests under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
1. Your Copyright
When you post an original story on our platform, you keep full copyright over your work.
By publishing, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display your content on the site and use excerpts for platform promotion. You can delete your story at any time — this revokes our license going forward (but not retroactively).
We will never sell your work or use it commercially without your permission.
We may promote user-generated content to help showcase the platform. Such promotion may appear alongside advertisements or affiliate links, but we do not sell or license your stories for profit without your permission.
2. Our Copyright (Including Platform-Owned Characters, Photos, and Music)
Certain content on this platform — including characters, branding, photos, and music associated with Don’t Turn Around and other original properties — is the intellectual property of [Your Name or Company].
We may provide select platform-owned images or music for users to enhance their stories. These assets may only be used:
On this platform, and
For non-commercial, creative storytelling purposes
You do not gain copyright ownership over platform-provided characters, photos, or music — even if you incorporate them into your story.
You may not:
Download or reuse platform-owned media offsite
Modify or remix official characters, photos, or soundtracks for commercial use
Claim platform IP as your own
3. User-Uploaded Media (Photos, Audio, Etc.)
If you upload your own media (e.g., photos, background music, or voiceovers), you must:
Be the original creator, or
Have the legal right or license to use and share that media
By uploading media, you confirm that:
You own or have permission to use all elements
Your content does not infringe on any third-party rights
We are not liable for copyright violations committed by users. We will respond to takedown notices as outlined in the DMCA section below.
4. Music & Audio Policy
Users may not upload or embed music, soundtracks, or other audio elements unless:
They created it themselves, or
They have a valid license (e.g., royalty-free music, Creative Commons license, or purchased rights)
Using copyrighted music without permission is not allowed, even if “credit is given.”
We reserve the right to remove stories containing unauthorized music or sound.
5. Filing a Counter-Notice
If your content was removed in error, you may file a counter-notice by emailing us with:
Your name and contact information
The content that was removed and where it appeared
A sworn statement that the removal was a mistake
Your consent to jurisdiction in U.S. courts
Your signature
6. Repeat Infringers
We may suspend or terminate accounts that repeatedly violate copyright laws or platform rules.
